Our Story

I’m am a former CPA and corporate loan servicing analyst who also taught Swing and Country Western dance with my husband John for many years. I developed an interest in health and nutrition when my older son was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 6.  I began to explore the effects of food choices and supplementation to help him and years later, after studying, became a Certified Wellness Educator, Certified Nutrition Adviser and most recently a Reconnective Healer.

How I Regained My Own Health:

I began using Shaklee products because I was tired, falling asleep at work and gaining weight. Within 2 weeks of starting a Shaklee health program, I was no longer falling asleep at work (my boss was happy), my metabolism shifted and I was able to lose weight. My energy level also came back and I was off and running. I also have hypothyroidism which was undiagnosed for many years – part of the fatigue and weight problem – and because of my nutritional program I was able to function with more energy than most people I danced with!

John’s Story:

My husband John, who is now 74, is a trained Exercise Physiologist who has taught at the college level and has been on the US Olympic Medical Team. Later, as an executive in Human Resources, he realized that owning your life was not possible in corporate America. Instead they owned you.

For over the past 15 years, John has been fighting Parkinson’s Disease and Shaklee has been a major part of him functioning so much better than other Parkinson’s patients. In 2010 John had major back surgery, after years of suffering from athletic injuries, causing him extreme pain, plus scoliosis, arthritis and more.  The surgeon fused several discs and put rods and screws above it.  He had 2 surgeries in 4 days, lasting over 15 hours total.  Coupled with the  Parkinson’s, which is affected by anesthesia, the neurosurgeon determined it would be a good 2 year recovery and that John would be in pain at least 6 months.  He was also concerned about doing such major surgery on a 73 year old man with Parkinson’s…

Not only did he recover faster than the majority of the back patients our neurosurgeon treated, we also saw first hand the difference in recovering from the pain of the surgery.  He was completely out of pain after 2 weeks, in part because we built him up nutritionally before the surgery and in part because of Shaklee’s Vivix, a powerful antioxidant and resveratrol syrup he was allowed to take while in the hospital (the only supplement the medical staff allowed).  John was released from the doctor’s care after 10 months!

Creating a Business:

I realized that I had become passionate about nutrition and healthy living and it was more fun and more interesting than my corporate job.  That led me in late 1986 to begin to share Shaklee with others and later to get my certifications and to become a Reconnective Healer.

The areas of my business that are my passion are helping stressed out professional women and moms who deal daily with stress, want more energy and, if they choose, want to work more flexible hours from home, enabling them to have more family time and the money to enjoy it.

I also want to help families keep themselves and their children healthier and off the usual drug cycles. Having had an ADHD child, I am also very interested in helping parents learn ways to help their children with this challenge and potentially minimize or eliminate drug use.  When my son was 6, there was almost NO information available, only drugs.  I wish I had known then what I know now, and I love the idea of helping parents make alternative choices, if they choose.

Creating Income:

Another MAJOR benefit of Shaklee has been the Shaklee compensation and benefit program. John has not been in the corporate world since the early 90’s. With our Shaklee income, even with John not working, we have still been able to live a wonderful life with flexibility and fun.

What does that look like??? We have enjoyed, just by helping others, national and international travel and bonus cars of our choice, plus the time freedom to be home and make sure John has what he needs and to be a big part of our Portland grandchildren’s upbringing.
